'I was in pain for almost 7-8 hours' - Shubman Gill recalls painful shin injury from last year
A shin injury had ruled Shubman Gill out of the five-match Test series against England last summer.
It seems that Shubman Gill might be in the perfect frame of mind ahead of the IPL 2022 that gets underway on March 26. After being released by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders, the batting sensation was drafted by the new entrants Gujarat Titans for INR eight crore before the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Meanwhile, the former U19 World Cup winner has shared agonizing experiences of the shin injury that had kept him out of action for a while and how he once again ended up suffering from the same injury. Shubman Gill has also talked about the excruciating pain he had experienced which was really frustrating for the youngster.
I have come out of it entirely now: Shubman Gill
“I have come out of it entirely now. I endured a stress fracture on my shin when we played the World Test Championship final in England. About 2-3 days later, when the match ended, that night, I was in a lot of pain with my shin. I was in pain for almost 7-8 hours. I had no issues with my shin. I had never faced any problem with it whatsoever. It was quite shocking for me… to be in pain for 7-8 hours in the night. When I told the physio the next day, they got an MRI done and that is where I found out that there’s a fracture in the shin,” said Gill while speaking to Sports Tak.
“After that, we went for the IPL and there weren’t too many fitness Tests so when we were playing Tests against New Zealand it reoccurred. In the first innings, there was quite a load while fielding because, for a long time, there wasn’t a Test match where we had to field for close to 130-140 overs, we fielded for almost two days. Due to that, it began paining again. After that, the physios decided that until and unless it completely heals, I won’t try to make a comeback. Else it will keep happening. I spent 2 months at the NCA and I am now completely pain free,” he added.
After recovering well, the 22-year-old will now be looking forward to rediscovering his rhythm on the 22 yards in the upcoming edition of the marquee tournament. Gujarat Titans will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against the other new entrants Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 28.
