'I was shouting from commentary box' - Aakash Chopra felt KXIP should've sent Mayank Agarwal to bat in Super Over
KXIP chose Rahul, Pooran and Maxwell to bat in the Super Over.
IPL 2020 is up and running in style with the second match of the tournament itself going into the Super Over. The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were involved in a thriller as the match swung from one way to other through the 40 overs of action. While Marcus Stoinis was the hero for the Capitals, Mayank Agarwal single-handedly took KXIP to the brink of victory only to not score the winning run.
But come the Super Over, both the sides didn’t use their best batsman of the match. While DC didn’t require Stoinis with the bat, KXIP’s decision to not send Agarwal after scoring 89 runs has left many baffled. It eventually cost them the game with KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran getting out after scoring just two runs. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has also questioned the KXIP management’s decision to not send the in-form batsman in the middle.
“I have huge questions in mind on what KXIP was doing. The match was in your grasp. Mayank Agarwal played amazingly well but why you didn’t send him to bat in the Super Over,” he said while speaking on his Youtube channel.
KXIP made super over a baby over, says Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra also pointed out that Mayank Agarwal was the only batsman in form on the day and disagreed with the options the team chose for the Super Over. KXIP sent KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell to face the over while Agarwal was nowhere to be seen. Chopra also revealed that he was shouting from the commentary box that they should send the opener.
“I was shouting from the commentary box to send him, he has scored so many runs and is the only guy in form. You send Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul and after that you send Maxwell,” the 43-year-old added. The decision didn’t go in KXIP’s favour as they couldn’t even play all six balls and lost both their wickets in three balls itself. Taunting them over the same, Aakash Chopra said that the team turned the Super Over into a baby over.
“You made the Super Over as a baby over, you lost 2 wickets in just 3 balls. You have let go of a match that you should have won,” the commentator further said.
