I was told by RCB that I'll be retained but they never called back: Chris Gayle
The big man surprisingly went unsold in the first two rounds of the auction before Kings XI Punjab brought him for his base price.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been going through a horrid patch this season. On the other hand, players like Chris Gayle, KL Rahul and Shane Watson who were a part of the franchise last year have been doing really well for their respective teams. While they still have a good batting order, it’s been the bowling that has been a flop show for them.
Gayle has been in tremendous form this year having scored 252 runs in just 4 games. The big man surprisingly went unsold in the first two rounds of the auction before Kings XI Punjab bought him for his base price. However, in his recent interview with TOI made a huge revelation.
I was told I will be retained, but they never called back
Not many expected the power hitter to be retained following his poor form last year. However, Gayle felt that it wasn’t righteous on their part to giving him the wrong impression. He expressed his disappointment over RCB not retaining him as promised.
“I was their biggest draw. It was disappointing from that end, because they had called me. They wanted me in the team and I was told that I will be retained. But they never called back after that. So that gave me the impression that they didn’t want me and it’s fine.” Gayle was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Most centuries, most sixes, if that doesn’t put a stamp on brand Chris Gayle, I don’t know what will
Gayle highlighted his form in the BPL. The flamboyant left-hander slammed 485 runs during the tournament and ended up as the highest run scorer. Even in the CPL, he had the third highest aggregate with 376 runs at an astounding average of 62.67.
“As I said, I can’t fight with anyone. I think I had a wonderful CPL and BPL – where I scored two centuries for my side Rangpur Riders. The stats don’t lie: 21 centuries, most number of sixes. If that doesn’t put a stamp on brand Chris Gayle, I don’t know what will.”
While the RCB management may be regretting having let him go, there are surely some happy faces at the Kings XI Punjab camp. The team has got a formidable opening pair in KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. With the Universe Boss having already set his eyes the IPL title, let’s see how it goes ahead.
