With no clarity over the future of MS Dhoni’s career with the Indian team, BCCI president-elect Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that he would like to know the national selection committee’s plans about the same. Neither the team-management nor the selectors have so far given a concrete explanation on their plans for Dhoni who continues to stay away from international cricket.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has been on a sabbatical since India’s World Cup exit in July. He consequently missed the series against West Indies and South Africa and is unlikely to feature in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home next month. As usual, Dhoni has remained silent on his career, thus adding more fuel to the confusion.

Ganguly now seems to have made up his mind on bringing an end to the episode by talking to the selectors about Dhoni. At the same time, Ganguly also said that he would like to speak to Dhoni too and know about his views. The former cricketer said that he would talk to the selectors on October 24, a day after the election ends.

“I will find out from the selectors when I meet them on October 24. We will find out what the selectors are thinking and then I will put forth my opinion. We will have to see what Dhoni wants. I will also speak to him what he wants to do and what he does not want to do,” Ganguly told reporters at the Eden Gardens.

“Since I was not in the picture, it may be a case that it’s not clear with me as of now. Now I am in a position to find out and then will decide on the way forward,” he added.

Sourav Ganguly on day-night cricket

Sourav Ganguly, meanwhile, has also insisted that India would not remain reluctant to the prospect of playing day-night Test. So far, the BCCI has not let India play the pink-ball Test due to fear over the conditions. While the likes of Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, England and others have already got a taste of the day-night Test, India are still waiting to play a Test match under the lights.

“World Test Championship has a day-night Test because Adelaide will host a pink-ball Test. I don’t think it is the right call to say that World Test Championship wouldn’t have day-night Tests,” Ganguly said.
