The Indian Premier League (IPL), since its inception, has given a platform to many deserving youngsters. These young starlets have also represented their national side after rising to fame through their IPL exploits.
IPL, known as the place where talent meets opportunity, gives a chance to many prospects to rub shoulders with world-class players. The story hasn’t been different this year, with many players like Devdutt Padikkal, Priyam Garg, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi proving their worth on UAE wickets.
One of the names amongst these young talents is pacer Tushar Deshpande, who is currently plying his trade for Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals. Recently, the speedster got a chance to meet his idol and hero– Dale Steyn– during the recent encounter between Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In a video posted by DC on Twitter, Tushar shared his experience of interacting with his ‘idol’ Steyn. The youngster also revealed how it felt while playing alongside Kagiso Rabada– the current spearhead of Capitals’ pace bowling force.
Tushar Deshpande left speechless after interacting with Dale Steyn
“I am speechless right now because he [Steyn] has been my idol over the years. I met him for the first time, and he answered all my questions very humbly. I felt very good,” Tushar said.
“I asked him, since he was the No. 1 bowler in Tests for eight years, what is the fitness recipe for a fast bowler at the international level? I have managed at the first-class level but at the international level what is the recipe? What has he followed? So he was just very humble about it. He just said that it’s repetitive work, good work over and over again,” the 25-year-old added.

Reacting to Tushar’s clip, Steyn also wished luck to the young gun and praised his ‘enthusiasm’. Steyn responded on Twitter, “Nothing better than meeting people who are enthusiastic and excited about becoming better players. Tushar is all that and more! I wish nothing but greatness for you, my friend.”

Tushar is yet to get a chance to play a game for Delhi Capitals. The Delhi side has been in stellar form so far and is one of the favourites to clinch the trophy this year. In five matches, Shreyas Iyer’s men have registered four victories and are sitting second in the points table with eight points.
Eyeing to clinch the top spot, Capitals are next scheduled to lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on 9 October at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Considering the size of boundaries at Sharjah, the game is anticipated to turn out as an absolute run-fest.
