Delhi Daredevils’ gloveman Rishabh Pant’s stocks as a limited-overs batsman have gone a notch above in IPL 2018 after his exemplary display. Despite Delhi Daredevils poor showing this season, Pant finished the campaign as a leading run-scorer. Having amassed 684 runs in 14 innings with 1 century and 5 fifties, Rishabh is currently the highest run-getter of IPL 2018.
Rishabh Pant was a lynchpin in Delhi’s batting order, shouldering responsibilities almost single-handedly to take his team over the line on occasions. The youngster has shown tremendous impetus during tense situations and has all the ingredients to evolve into a prolific cricketer.
In his recent interview with The Economic Times, Pant reflected on his stellar IPL 2018 campaign, saying: “It has been a very good season personally. I would have loved for our team to win many more matches but we lost a few close games. I wasn’t able to do what I wanted when I played for India. There was pressure and I was perhaps feeling it a little too much. When you play international sport there is always pressure and I have now been able to adjust to it and come to terms with it.”
Pant breaks a host of records
With a 56 ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rishabh Pant became the second youngest to score an IPL hundred and youngest to score 1000 runs in the IPL. Pant also became the first Indian centurion this season.
Manish Pandey, who hammered a hundred for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009, aged 19 years and 253 days, is the youngest IPL centurion to date. Sanju Samson is now the third youngest. The Rajasthan Royals batsman had scored a hundred last year when he was 22 years and 151 days. Quinton de Kock (23 years and 122 days) and David Warner (23 years and 153 days) are fourth and fifth on the list respectively.
