Jahanara Alam has been a linchpin of the Bangladesh women’s team for nearly a decade now. She made her debut back in 2011 and is one her team’s most prolific wicket-takers in ODI and T20I cricket. However, when it comes to men’s cricket, the 27-year-old from Khulna wishes to dismiss Virat Kohli, the all-format Indian captain.
Kohli is currently the ICC’s number one ranked ODI batsman. Moreover, he is the all-time leading run-scorer in T20I cricket and in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. The 31-year-old is also India’s most successful captain in Test cricket, surpassing MS Dhoni’s tally during the Test series against the West Indies in 2019.
A number of bowlers have expressed their desire to test their potential against Kohli and for Jahanara, it isn’t any different. “I would like to dismiss Virat Kohli,” Jahanara was quoted as saying in Anandabazar.
Jahanara Alam reveals her favourite IPL team
Jahanara also named the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as her favourite IPL team and she wishes to ply her trade at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. She also followed SRH keenly when Shakib Al Hasan played for the Orange Army. Shakib also played quite a few seasons for the Knights before moving to the Sunrisers.
“KKR is my favourite IPL team. When Shakib Al Hasan bhai played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, I supported SRH as well. This time, there’s no Bangladesh cricketer in the IPL. I will support KKR itself. I can’t explain why I love KKR so much, but ever since the IPL started, I supported them,” Jahanara stated.
Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza also played for the Knight Riders, though he could only play a solitary match. Mohammad Ashraful, Mustafizur Rahman and Abdur Razzak are the other Bangladesh cricketers to play in the IPL. Tamim Iqbal was also a part of the Pune Warriors India, but he didn’t get to take the field for them.
“I haven’t had the privilege of playing at the Eden Gardens. Hopefully, one day I can play there and at the Lord’s. Most legends of the game have played at the venues and even I want to play there,” she added. In 108 matches for the Tigresses, Jahanara has 88 wickets.
