One of the most incredible batters of the modern-day generation, AB de Villiers has confirmed his return to the RCB unit for the next season of IPL 2023. The South African has played a pivotal role for the franchise since 2011 and has managed to win a lot of games on his own alongside Virat Kohli in the team. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018 but went on to play franchise cricket for the next three years for RCB and in 2021, he bid adieu to all forms of cricket.
The fans were bewildered by his decision as he was in prime form despite not playing international cricket, however, they understood that it had to come one day. Notably, in a recent chat, Kohli had hinted at the possibility of his closest mate De Villiers into the RCB unit for the next season but was quite sure about not playing as a player. “Did I spill the beans?” Kohli said in a video posted by RCB with a chuckle.
I am glad to hear Virat confirmed it: AB de Villiers
De Villiers added a bit of sugar to the statement from Virat Kohli, revealing that he will definitely be part of the franchise next year and added that it is yet to be confirmed what would be his role. He went on to note about missing the passionate fans in Bangalore and felt the need to be back in RCB setup given the possibility of the tournament getting back to home venues for the franchises next year.
“I am glad to hear Virat confirmed it. To be honest, we haven’t decided on anything yet. I will definitely be around IPL next year. I am not sure in what capacity but I am missing getting back there,” De Villiers told VUSport.
“I have a heard a little bird tweeting, saying that there might be some games in Bangalore. So I would love to return to my second hometown and watch the full capacity stadium there at the Chinnaswamy again. I would love to return, I am looking forward to it,” he added.
