Australian Wicket keeping legend Adam Gilchrist used Twitter to express his views on the controversial dismissal of Steve Smith in the second innings of the second Test in Bangalore. The retired left-handed power hitter held Smith responsible and thinks his actions were against the rules of cricket. Gilchrist, who is one the perfect example of the “Gentleman’s game” has not been part of the review era but has a bag full of experience too, has his say on the spirit of the game.

The Australian skipper’s wicket came at a very crucial point in the match. He was the only batsman who was looking comfortable against the Indian bowlers. But a brilliant delivery from Indian pacer Umesh Yadav ended his knock at the score of 28. Yadav’s delivery kept quite low and Smith failed to get some bat on it in an attempt to defend the ball.

Smith was caught leg before wicket in front of the stumps and was declared out by the umpire. Steve looked displeased with the umpire’s decision and wanted to review the same. After having a chat with the non-striker, Smith turned towards the dressing room looking for an answer whether to use the decision review system or not. But the umpire reacted quickly and stopped smith from consulting the changing room as it was aginst the rules of the game.

The veteran Aussie Gilly’s tweet read “I never played in the review era, but I’d suspect that’s against the rules. Not a good thing. Sure he will be reprimanded and move on.”

Gilchrist thinks the present Australian skipper may not be suspended for his unacceptable act but will be at the end of a firing and will be allowed to let go. The 45-year-old’s tweet was highly appreciated by his followers on Twitter as they got to hear from the man who has played the game fairly all his life.
