Ian Bishop in splits after a fan confuses him with Kieron Pollard
Bishop, who is a regular in the commentary box is currently in India to call the West-Indies series.
It is fair to say that former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop is one of the best commentators analysts going in the modern game. Who can forget his guttural roar- “Carlos Brathwaite….Carlos Brathwaite..remember the name!!”- when former West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite smoked those four sixes off Ben Stokes on that eventful night of April 2016 at the Eden Gardens?
That guttural role from Bishop is now a part of the cricketing folklore. Bishop, who is a regular in the commentary box is currently in India to call the West-Indies series. Kieron Pollard’s men will square off against Virat Kohli‘s Men in Blue in a series of three One-day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals. And, in a very rare instance, the former fast bowler wasn’t construed to be as Kieron Pollard by one of the fans during his flight to Hyderabad.
The celebrated commentator took to Twitter where he wrote, “On the way to Hyderabad. Got asked by the elderly gentleman sitting next to me on the plane at 3.30 am if I was Kieron Pollard😂😂😂😂.”
Will West Indies be able to break the six-match losing streak against India?
Talking about the upcoming T20I series, it will be a great opportunity for both sides to work on whatever chinks they have in their armor. West Indies might be the current champions but their form in the shortest format of the game has declined substantially in the past 18-24 months.
The Pollard-led unit finds themselves languishing at the tenth spot in the ICC rankings for T20Is and is coming off a 1-2 series loss at the hands of Afghanistan after their batsmen proved to be inept against the likes of Rashid Khan. The stiffer challenge in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav awaits the West Indies as they aim to put an end to their six-match losing streak against the former world champions.
As for Team India, it will be another series where the process is expected to take precedence over the final result. Opportunities galore for the likes of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Shivam Dube and chinaman-left-arm leg spinner- Kuldeep Yadav, and all of them will hope they can put their best foot forward as far staking their claim to a spot in next years’ World Cup unit.
