Ian Bishop suggests Prithvi Shaw to score more and more runs in domestic cricket

Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut with a bang in 2018 with a century against West Indies. He missed out some Test matches due to injury and then suffered a ban from the BCCI for failing a drug test. Since the pandemic hit, Shaw’s career has taken a hit. During the IPL, he kept getting dismissed in similar ways. 

Every time the ball came into him, he got out. Something which happened twice during India’s first Test against Australia in Adelaide. He was dropped from the XI for the Melbourne Test and Shubman Gill was given an opportunity. The latter played well and made sure he kept his spot ahead of Shaw for the England home Test matches. In a recent interaction, former West Indies bowler Ian Bishop opened up about Shaw’s indifferent form.

While speaking with Sportstar, the cricketer turned commentator suggested that Shaw must go back to playing domestic cricket. The 21-year-old plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and was a prolific batter for them. He has scored 2263 runs in 25 first-class matches with an average of 51.43 and strike rate of more than 80. 

Someone can help Prithvi Shaw adjust or fine-tune the deficiency: Ian Bishop

“I am not the batting technician or guru who can tell Shaw what to do and how to fix his deficiency. There are those much more qualified to do that. It is not simply about going back to domestic cricket and scoring tons of runs. Shaw scores high-volume runs domestically anyway,” Ian Bishop said while referring to the plenty of runs which Shaw scores in first-class cricket. 

Bishop then went on to say that the young batsman needs to take advice from someone on how he can fine-tune the issues with his batting. The way in which Shaw has been getting out is pretty similar in all his major dismissals. 

“It must be that someone can help him to adjust or fine-tune the deficiency which has been identified, allow him to get comfortable with it, and then for him to get acclimated to it by using the modification to continue scoring domestically and regain confidence and form,” Ian Bishop further added.
