Shaheen Afridi has certainly made a name for himself in the last couple of years. The left-arm pacer can swing the ball both ways and that too at a brisk pace. Nailing bouncers and yorkers isn’t beyond his reach either. Riding on his prowess, Pakistan also registered several wins and it will be interesting to see how far the young speedster goes.
It has to be noted that Shaheen is just 21 and many are backing him to become a great of the game. Former West Indian paceman Ian Bishop is also of the same opinion. Heaping praises on the young Pakistan pacer, Bishop called Afridi an all-format bowler. However, he also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to manage his workload in order to prolong his career.
Shaheen Afridi is a weapon at 21 years of age: Ian Bishop
“Look, I have long said that…. Shaheen Shah Afridi, every Sunday, every day for me because he is an all-format bowler,” Bishop said. “He is an attacking bowler, he is a weapon at 21 years of age. He has so much that he can learn,” Bishop said on PCB’s podcast.
“I have one request for everyone in Pakistan please manage him carefully over the next 10 or 12 years. He is a phenomenal superstar under construction,” he added. Meanwhile, Afridi was last seen in the recently-concluded Test series against West Indies. He spitted venom in both Test matches and tormented the Caribbean batters. He, in total, took 18 wickets as the series resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Notably, Afridi also received the Player-of-the-Match award for his sensational show. Meanwhile, some quality Test cricket was played in the series and Bishop was left impressed as well. He also hailed the likes of Fawad Alam and Babar Azam for their brilliant show with the bat.
“I think it has been a great series for both the teams,” he said. “I have seen some good seam and fast bowling from both sides. The pitch was also suited for that and perhaps one of the things that Pakistan have benefited from is that they have good bowling plus they have a couple of world-class batsmen in Babar (Azam) and Fawad (Alam),” he asserted.
