Ian Chappell makes a big prediction on Indian wrist spinners

The Indian team made a staggering comeback by winning the six-match ODI series in a domineering manner against the Proteas, after a loss in the Test series in the African contingent. Indian top order comprising of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli proved to be a heavy composition to digest for the opposition as the trio shared five centuries between them to lead the banter against the home side.
However, the maximum credit of this dominating series victory goes to fluent bowling partnership between the two wrist spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav who never allowed the South African batsmen to settle down by taking wickets in the middle-overs. Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has made a big prediction on what the future holds for these two Indian wrist spinners.

Kuldeep arrived into this tour as a mystery chinaman bowler who proved his worth for his team by picking up 17 wickets in the six-match ODI series with an impressive average of 13.88. While his spin partner Chahal claimed 16 wickets in his kitty rattling the Proteas batters with his lovely ability to flight the ball at a variable pace in the air. The Indian skipper also termed these two spinners as the important trump cards of his team in the World Cup 2019 in England.

Chappell reckons that both Kuldeep and Chahal could play a pivotal role for their side considering the large size of the Australian grounds. He also predicted these two to be very much successful in Australia if they are able to maintain their clinical run before that series.
“On the large Australian grounds good wrist spin can reap vital rewards. If Kuldeep and Chahal maintain their form, they could become famous (or infamous) in Australia, the spiritual home of wrist-spin bowling,” wrote Chappell in his piece for the Hindustan Times.
