Former Australian wicketkeeper and Channel 9 commentator/analyst, Ian Healy, suggested that the part time option of Peter Hanbdscomb behind the wickets in the Second Test match at Chittagong is not going to help anyone, given the dismal keeping of Matthew Wade in the dust bowl at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur Dhaka. Healy also believed that Australians might have to look at Peter Nevill yet again for the forthcoming Ashes series.

Matthew Wade struggled with bat and gloves in the First Test as he gave away as many as 30 Byes in the match and could only farm nine runs in both innings. Healy warned the think tank against picking a part-time ‘keeper in conditions as challenging as the prevailing ones in Bangladesh.

“That’s not going to help anyone. You risk compromising Handscomb’s batting, and I don’t imagine the bowlers would be filled with confidence knowing there’s a part-timer at the other end with the gloves on,” commented Ian Healy according to Wide World of Sports.

Healy on Peter Nevill

“I’m not looking too much at the 30 byes. It was a really difficult pitch to keep on, there were some balls coming through shin high, and others disappearing over the batsman’s shoulder. I said at the time Peter Nevill was unlucky to get dropped. I consider him the best gloveman in the country, and he’d just made an unbeaten 60 in Perth, then got dropped a match later,” claimed Healy on the unfair axing of Peter Nevill in the South Africa series.

“If Wade has a good Test in Chittagong I expect he’ll be there at the Gabba. But if he struggles the selectors will definitely be looking around. It may come down to who does the best in the first couple of Shield matches. But the Ashes is no time to be looking at someone new. If it’s not Wade, they have to go back to Nevill,” quoted Healy looking at the Ashes.
