ICC announce increase in Champions Trophy prize money

The winners of the upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in England and Wales will get a large sum as the prize money as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced an increase in the prize money by half a million in the prize pool for the tournament. There will be an increase in the prize money from 2013 by $500,000. The 2013 edition was also held in England and Wales.

The total prize pool is $US4.5 million. While the champions will bag $US2.5 million, the runners-up will take home more than $US1.1 million while the semi-finalist will bag $US60,000 each. 3rd place teams in each group will take $US90,000 each while each team finishing last in the group will take home $US60,000 each.

The tournament featuring the top 8 teams in the world currently will kick start on 1st June with England locking horns with Bangladesh in the opener. The final of the tournament will be held at the Kennington Oval in Oval on 19th June. Team India are the defending champions in the tournament but given with seam friendly conditions on offer they won’t be starting as favourites.

Hosts England will be one of the prime contenders and will like to break their jinx in ICC tournaments. India will start off their campaign against Pakistan which might be the biggest match in the tournament. For the first time, West Indies won’t feature in a Champions Trophy as they are not among the top 8 teams currently.
