ICC announces Test rankings following the annual update

Team India has consolidated their numero uno position in the latest ICC Test rankings with 125 points and the lead over the second placed South Africa is increased to 13 now. The points and the rankings are changed following the annual update in which the series results form 2014/15 are removed and the outcomes from 2015/16 and 2016/17 are weighted at 50 percent. However, apart from India, Australia and Bangladesh have also gained more points after the annual update.

Recently, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was awarded with the Test mace after managing to hold on to their top spot until the cut-off date of April 3. They also won $1 Million and South Africa who were second placed bagged an amount of $ 50,000. While New Zealand and Australia were at the third and fourth position respectively. But Australia has taken over their Trans-Tasman rivals after the annual update after gaining 4 points and now sit on the third position 106 points to their name.

Bangladesh trumps Windies

The ICC, on Tuesday, released the latest Test rankings on its official website which saw India gaining 4 points and strengthening their top position. Australia seized the third place with 106 points to their name, while Bangladesh has now trumped Windies to end up at the 8th place with 75 points. England has inched closer to New Zealand after the update and now have 98 points, only 4 points behind the Kiwis.

Pakistan has slipped to the seventh position and has also lost the couple points even as their Asian rival Sri Lanka have bagged the sixth place with 94 points. The media release of ICC also stated that going forward, the points table will see new additions in the form of Ireland and Afghanistan who were awarded the Full Membership status last year. While the former are due to play their inaugural Test match in on May 11 in Dublin against Pakistan, Afghanistan will get off the mark in the longest format against India on June 14 in Bengaluru.
