ICC approves Sri Lanka to replace injured Dimuth Karunaratne in World Cup 2015 squad: The International Cricket Council (ICC) technical committee approved Sri Lanka’s request for replacement for their injured batsman and opener Dimuth Karunaratne.

Sekkuge Prasanna has been called in as a replacement for the injured Karunaratne. He fractured his finger while batting in nets ahead of the game in Sydney and has been ruled out for the rest of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

Prasanna, a leg spinner has played 22 ODIs for Sri Lanka taking 21 wickets and making 181 runs in the games he has played in. He last played for Sri Lanka against New Zealand earlier this year in Wellington.

The technical committee of ICC comprises of is Geoff Allardice (ICC General Manager – Cricket, Chairman), Campbell Jamieson (ICC General Manager – Commercial), John Harnden (Chief Executive, CWC 2015), Gavin Larsen (Cricket Operations Manager, New Zealand), Russel Arnold and Sanjay Manjrekar (independent nominees) for the 2015 World Cup.

Sri Lanka has played four matches, winning three. Its fifth pool stage match is against Australia in Sydney on Sunday, 8 March. They are in group A of the tournament along with Australia, England, New Zealand, Bangladesh and qualifiers Scotland and Afghanistan.

The team management has to submit an application in writing to the technical committee to replace any injured or ill player/s in their squad. The application must include a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. A player, once replaced may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.
