The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is all set to get underway from October 5 in India. Notably, it will be the first ever tournament being solely hosted by the cricket-crazy nation as they have earlier hosted the tournament thrice as co-hosts – with Pakistan (1987, 1996) and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011.
The cricketing extravaganza will get underway with a match between 2019 finalists England and New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the eyes of the fans will be glued to the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan clash at the same venue on October 14.
The Men in Blue boast of a clean record against the arch-rivals having beaten them on all the seven occasions when the two teams have met in the ODI World Cup. Hence, the Indian fans are eagerly waiting for their side to extend their winning streak while the Pakistan fans want their team to break the jinx as they did in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Notably, the Babar Azam-led side beat India by ten wickets during the T20 World Cup 2021 to end their unbeaten record against them in all World Cups. Meanwhile, the final of the World Cup will also be played in Ahmedabad on November 19 while the two semi-finals will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The 13th edition of the ODI World Cup is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested editions as the ten evenly matched sides are set to take on each other. All ten teams have announced their 15-member squads for the World Cup and have begun arriving in India ahead of the mega event.
The warm-up fixtures for the World Cup will begin from September 29 while the teams can make changes to their squads till September 28.
