ICC in no position to sever ties with any member nation: BCCI Official
The ICC will address BCCI's concern over the security arrangements for the upcoming World Cup
The quarterly meeting of ICC is scheduled to take place in Dubai on Wednesday. Recently, the BCCI had expressed its concern over the security arrangements for the upcoming World Cup. The International Cricket Council is likely to address the same. However, there’s going to be no discussion regarding the participation of Pakistan in the coveted tournament.
Recently, more than 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack which has been linked to Pakistan. Hence, there have been calls of severing all cricketing ties by the Indian contingent. The Committee of Administrators even wrote a letter to the ICC, urging them to boycott countries which support terrorism.
ECB has always provided top notch security arrangements
CEO Rahul Johri had earlier raised concern over the security for the World Cup commencing from the 30th of May. The ICC will hence bring up the same towards the BCCI as their Chief Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday. A senior BCCI official stated that the England Cricket Board has always been at par with security and all doubts will be cleared.
“The ICC will provide all the details of the security arrangements made for the World Cup. It will be same for all the participating nations and England and Wales Cricket Board have always provided top notch arrangements. But since there has been an apprehension, the doubts will be cleared,” a senior BCCI official privy to the ICC’s functioning was quoted by Business Standard.
ICC in no position to sever ties with any member nation
The relations between India and Pakistan have taken a toll after the recent terrorist attack at Pulwama. Many cricketers including former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly have called out on severing cricketing ties with Pakistan completely. India are scheduled to play their arch-rivals in the World Cup on 16th June. However, the official mentioned that the ICC is unlikely to even bring it up for discussion.
“The ICC is in no position to ask any cricket board to sever ties with another member nation. It doesn’t have right to do so. This is a diplomatic issue which is dealt with at the government level. A member board can always discuss the issue if they want but one can be rest assured that nothing will happen.”
