The International Cricket Council (ICC) was at the receiving end on Wednesday after their tweet related to the Indian politics on their official Twitter handle. They were severely criticised for the same by the fans all over the world as it is supposed to give only the updates related to cricket. Though they deleted the tweet later after 10 minutes, it had done the required damage by then. However, the Digital Content Manager of ICC, Alistair Hogg, has taken note of the incident and will investigate the matter.

The official Twitter handle of ICC had retweeted a funny video which depicted the current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Asaram Bapu who is currently in jail for all his wrongdoings. The video had nothing to do with cricket and the world cricketing body captioned its retweet as “Narayan, Narayan”. It seemed a little bit fishy but such blunders from them are not expected as the news spreads fast on social media nowadays.

Hogg responds

Daniel Alexander, the administrator at Island Cricket, took to Twitter by posting the screenshot of the Tweet and termed it as ‘Ugly’. Alistair Hogg was quick to respond to it as he thanked him for the same and informed that they are investigating the same on priority. “Thank you Daniel. I was made aware of the tweet this morning and am investigating as a priority,” his response read.

It remains to be seen what action ICC takes on the matter. It is possible that the account might have got hacked but then there would’ve been more such posts in that case. It might be a mistake from one of their social media handlers as the Twitterati speculated that he might have forgotten to switch accounts before tweeting.
