ICC to make amendments in playing conditions

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to implement a few alterations in its playing conditions for international matches from this month itself. The same will come into action on September 30, 2018. The ‘extra time’ rule is more prominent in the sport of football, however, the world’s apex cricket board will now bring a law of similar nature in cricket as well.

Under the clauses 11.4 (ODI), 11.7 and 12.8 (Tests), if a result is on the cards, extra time can be requested so that the match can be concluded prior to a scheduled interval. Moreover, as per clause 19 (Test, ODI and T20I), unless the boundary is maximum 90 yards away from the centre of the pitch, the boundary rope can’t be any more than 10 yards from the edge of the playing area.

Interesting changes put forth by the ICC

A change has also been brought forth surrounding the clause 21.12. As per the law, an umpire shall revoke the call of No ball if Dead ball is called under any of Laws 20.4.2.4 to 20.4.2.9 (Umpire calling and signalling Dead ball). The revoking of the ball should now be done in situations where the bowler dropped the ball or didn’t deliver it as per reports in The Express Tribune.

If the ball is delivered after which something happens because of which the ball becomes dead, then the no-balls will count. The laws are slated to be in place from September 30, 2018, the same date, which marks the start of Zimbabwe’s tour of South Africa.

Zimbabwe will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in a tour, which will take place until Sunday, October 14. The playing conditions for women’s international cricket matches will be distributed separately. The previous set of laws was introduced back in October 2017.
