The Infotainment of Cricket with CricTracker App
In order to acknowledge the regular efforts of the players, the International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced ‘Player of the Month’ awards for both men and women cricketers in 2021. To select the winner, ICC formed an independent Voting Academy which comprises former cricketers, commentators, and journalists from different corners of the world.
These officials, with the help of the fans, finalize the ICC Men’s Player of the Month and ICC Women’s Player of the Month. As far as the process is concerned, the ICC Awards Nominations Committee selects three nominees for monthly awards on the basis of individual performances and overall achievements of players during a particular month.
Performances of players are considered from the first day of the month to the last day of the month. Subsequently, the nominees are released and the shortlisted candidates are voted by the independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide. Notably, the Voting Academy submits its votes by e-mail and retains a 90% share of the vote. The remaining 10 % share belongs to the fans, who vote their opinion.
Winners are announced every second Monday of the month on the ICC’s digital and social media platforms – Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Players of both Full and Associate Member nations are considered for the prominent award. Now, there are many Test matches that coincide between different months. Hence, ICC has made criteria for such games as well.
This has also increased the excitement among the fans to follow all Cricket Live Scores and know more about player stats.
Test matches must have concluded before the last day of the month to be considered for that month. Hence, performances in the games coinciding between two months won’t be considered for the award.
