ICC releases press statement after the London attacks

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed deep grief at the recent London attacks. They released a press release on their official website on Sunday morning. The city of London saw brutal attacks by three extremists in the wee hours on Saturday night. All of them were shot dead by the Police but there was loss of life in the attack and several were left injured.

Earlier, there was a case of a bomb blast at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. The attack had caused widespread blow to the cricket world since the United Kingdom is expected to host two major cricket events this year. The International Cricket Council and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had then assured all the participating countries of full security.

A day before the marquee clash between India and Pakistan the attacks in London took place. The cricket board has expressed that their prayers are with the ones affected by the attacks. The boards are closely working to ensure that the full security is provided to the participating teams, the players, and the management.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened in London overnight. The ICC and ECB continue to place safety and security at the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer as the highest priority,” the release stated.

“Following last night’s incident all team hotels went into lockdown and teams, match officials and staff were all quickly accounted for. The enhanced security around venues implemented following the Manchester attack remains in place, this includes significantly enhanced police and security presence for today’s match,” it added further.

On monitoring the security requirements

It further noted that all the security measures are taken with the collaboration of Tournament Security Directorate along with the police and security authorities. ICC revealed that they will continue to work with the authorities in the coming days to keep an eye on how the things are evolving in the security front.

“We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate – in conjunction with the ECB and relevant police and security authorities – to ensure that we can deliver a safe and secure event. We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels,” ICC release stated.

“The security situation has been very much front and centre of our preparations and we constantly review our procedures to guarantee they are as effective as possible to keep everyone safe,” it added.

“We do not disclose our security details as a matter of policy,” it added further.
