Back on October 9, 1940, a legend by the name of John Lennon was born. The renowned English singer and songwriter later turned out to be the co-founder of the legendary band Beatles. Back on September 9, 1971, a song ‘Imagine’ was released and it became an instant hit. Even after Lennon’s death on December 8, 1980, the song arguably remains as one of his very best.
The song has gained so much popularity that even the International Cricket Council (ICC), related it two of the greatest cricketers of this generation- MS Dhoni, the veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, and James Anderson, the experienced England fast bowler. Both cricketers have been exceptional in their respective careers and even into their late 30s, they are going great guns.
At the age of 37, Dhoni is expected to play a major role in India’s World Cup journey in England and Wales. His batting abilities have been on the wane a wee bit, but he holds a very important position in the team. Anderson, on the other hand, is the fourth-highest Test wicket-taker and tops the list amongst the fast bowlers as he recently surpassed Glenn McGrath, the Australian great.
On Sunday, the world’s apex cricket board took to their Twitter handle and revised the lyrics of the song ‘Imagine’, focusing on Anderson’s ability to move the ball and Dhoni’s prowess to stump a batsman and constantly chirping away from behind the wickets. It goes without saying that the blockbuster song was a tribute to two of the greatest cricketers the world has ever been a witness to.
Here is ICC’s tweet
"You may say I’m a seamer
But I’m not James Anderson.
I hope someday you’ll edge behind
And the cordon will appeal as one!"— ICC (@ICC) February 10, 2019
Here are the revised lyrics
Imagine there’s no umpire, it’s easy if you try.
No one to signal boundary, or raise both hands to the sky.
Imagine all the bowlers, running in all dayyyyy…
Imagine there’s no Dhoni, it’s so very hard to do.
No one to catch or stump you, and no banter, too.
Imagine all the batsmen, running twos and threeeeees.
You may say I’m a seamer, but I’m not James Anderson.
I hope some day you’ll edge behind, and the cordon will appeal as one!
Imagine there’s no winter, I wonder if you can?
No need for nets or covers, just working on that tan.
Imagine all the matches, played all year rounded…
Ooooohhhh [everyone now]
You may say I’m a seamer, but I’m not James Anderson.
I hope someday you’ll edge behind, and the cordon will appeal as one!
