It’s the last day of group games in Group B in the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Barring Ireland, every team will be playing a game. In the first match, Hong Kong and Nigeria will face off. Even as the latter is out of race for a playoff spot. Aizaz Khan’s men are still in with a glimmer of a hope, though it will need a herculean effort from them. In the second encounter, Oman and Jersey will lock horns.

Jersey only need to win the next game, but also by a particular margin. Oman, on the contrary, will book themselves a berth in next year’s World Cup if they manage another victory. The third game will see hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada cross swords. Both teams are almost through to the next round, barring a miracle. Canada will be looking for a triumph after losing two in a row.

Pitch Report

Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

The track at the venue used to be slow and low. But in the last game, the Oman batters went about at a rate of knots on it. The spinners will get some assistance if they hit the right channels on a consistent basis. The after noon games have favoured both the chasing and, the team, batting first.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1, Abu Dhabi

Out of seven matches, three times, the team, batting second came out trumps. The track has been a tad inconsistent over the time being, but batting has looked more or less easy. The spinners are likely to be hard to get away in the middle-overs and run-scoring in the powerplay will be crucial.

Weather Report

The weather in the morning will be extremely hot with the temperature extending up to 37 degrees Celsius. Though the humidity will be around 30, conditions will be tough for the players. As the day go along the temperature will come down. In the night game, dew is also expected to play a part.

Match 39, Hong Kong vs Nigeria, Group B

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has pinned their hopes on Kinchit Shah and Nizakat Khan to a large extent. Barring the duo, there hasn’t been enough contribution from the rest of their batting. Scott McKenchie got 40 versus Jersey and he’s high on confidence. In bowling, Ehsan Khan has been economical, though he has only two wickets. Kyle Christie remains to be their leading wicket-taker with four scalps.

Probable XI

Nizakat Khan, Ahsan Abbasi, Aizaz Khan (C), Kinchit Shah, Waqas Barkat, Haroon Arshad, Scott McKenchie (wk), Simandeep Singh, Ehsan Khan, Kyle Christie, Nasrullah Rana

Nigeria

The Nigeria batting has blown hot and cold. Apart from knocks here and there from Sesan Adedeji, Chimezie Onwuzulike and Leke Oyede, their batting has been shoddy, to say the least. Only three of their batters have an average in the double digits. In the bowling department, Sylvester Okpe has four wickets to his name. Ajekun, Akachukwu, Abioye and Isaac Okpe have three wickets each.

Probable XI

Daniel Ajekun, Sulaimon Runsewe, Daniel Gim, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Ademola Onikoyi (C & WK), Sesan Adedeji, Isaac Okpe, Leke Oyede, Vincent Adewoye, Chima Akachukwu

Probable Top performers

Kinchit Shah – Hong Kong |  Sylvester Okpe – Nigeria

Match 40, Oman vs Jersey, Group B

Oman

Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas have 164 and 152 runs respectively. The duo has also scored the runs at a fair clip, not allowing the pressure to build. Skipper Maqsood has an average of 49. But it’s their bowling that has been hard to deal with. Khawar Ali and Aamir Kaleem have eight wickets each with economy rates under six. Bilal Khan has been effective with his left-arm seam with seven scalps.

Probable XI

Jatinder Singh, Khawar Ali, Aqib Ilyas, Zeeshan Maqsood (C), Aamir Kaleem, Suraj Kumar (wk), Khurram Nawaz, Sandeep Goud, Mohammad Nadeem, Fayyaz Butt, Bilal Khan

Jersey

Jersey’s show has mostly depended on how Jonty Jenner has stepped up. The right-hander has 160 runs at an average of 40. Ben Stevens has looked good in patches. But there hasn’t been much support from the other batters. Stevens has six wickets to his name as well. Skipper Charles Perchard is their highest wicket-taker with seven wickets. Leg-spinner Benjamin Ward has bowled well.

Probable XI

Harrison Carlyon, Nick Greenwood, Ben Stevens, Jonty Jenner, Jake Dunford (wk), Benjamin Ward, Dominic Blampied (wk), Corey Bisson, Anthony Hawkins-Kay, Charles Perchard (C), Elliot Miles

Probable Top performers

Aqib Ilyas – Oman |  Nick Greenwood – Jersey

Match Timings – 15:40 IST and 14:10 local.

Match 42, UAE vs Canada, Group B

UAE

Zawar Farid got a 55 against Nigeria and he’s in good rhythm. Rohan Mustafa has 115 runs at 23. It’s pertinent to note that UAE hasn’t had a standout batter. It’s their bowling that has choked the opposition. Sultan Ahmed, Ahmed Raza and Mustafa have economy rates of less than five. Raza and Mustafa have a combined tally of 12 wickets. Fast bowler Junaid Siddiqui has five wickets in his kitty.

Probable XI

Rohan Mustafa, Zawar Farid, Chirag Suri, Muhammad Usman, Waheed Ahmed, Mohammad Boota (wk), Sultan Ahmed, Darius D’Silva, Ahmed Raza (C), Junaid Siddiqui, Imran Haider

Canada

Canada has tended to depend a lot of Nitish Kumar, who has 234 runs at an average of 58.50. Srimantha Wijeratne scored 56 in his first game and he needs to carry on with the momentum. Navneet Dhaliwal has to show a bit more consistency. Saad Bin Zafar didn’t play the last game and he may come back in place of Romesh Eranga. Their spin department has been a tad lacklustre.

Probable XI

Srimantha Wijeratne, Navneet Dhaliwal (C), Nitish Kumar, Nicholas Kirton, Ravinderpal Singh, Abraash Khan, Hamza Tariq (wk), Dillon Heyliger, Nikhil Dutta, Romesh Eranga/Saad Bin Zafar

Probable Top performers

Ahmed Raza – UAE |  Nikhil Dutta – Canada
