After an exciting first day of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers, it’s time for the second day. Even as there will be three matches in Group A, Group B will be a witness to only a couple of encounters. Jersey and Nigeria will face off in the first match of Group B. Jersey, captained by Nick Ferraby, must be high on confidence after comprehensively beating Singapore and Kenya in the warm-up games.

On the contrary, Nigeria will be looking to shed the disappointment of the twin-losses in the warm-ups. In the second game under the lights, hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) are scheduled to lock horns with Ireland. UAE have been on a roll of late. Recently, they slapped Netherlands with a 4-0 thrashing. In the warm-ups, UAE defeated Papua New Guinea and Scotland without dropping sweat.

Pitch and Weather Update (Abu Dhabi)

The pitch is expected to be a great one for batting throughout the day. Amidst the run-flow, spinners will have their say as well. In Abu Dhabi, the tweakers have economy of less than seven. There won’t be any chances of rain throughout the day. The temperature under the sun will be around the 35 degrees Celsius. The humidity won’t be on the high side either with the numbers mostly in the 50s.

Match- 6, Jersey vs Nigeria

Jersey

Jersey has a potent bowling lineup up their sleeve after restricting their opponent to 112 and 127 in the warm-ups. The team depends heavily on Ben Stevens, who can hit the big shots in the middle order. He is also a handy prospect with the ball in slow and low conditions. Skipper Ferraby had a couple of poor outings coming into the game and he will be looking to lead from the front.

Probable XIs

Nick Ferraby (C & WK), Harrison Carlyon, Ben Stevens, Nick Greenwood, Corey Bisson, Jonty Jenner, Dominic Blampied, Anthony Hawkins-Kay, Julius Sumerauer, William Robertsen, Rhys Palmer

Nigeria

Nigeria floundered with both bat and ball in the warm-ups. They lost 19 wickets, scoring in 214 runs in two games. Their bowling also conceded runs at around nine an over in those games. A lot would depend on the opening duo of Daniel Ajekun and Leke Oyede, both of whom needs to set the platform. The middle-order needs to come to the party and the bowlers have to back them big time.

Probable XIs

Daniel Ajekun, Leke Oyede, Sesan Adedeji, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Isaac Okpe, Ademola Onikoyi (C & WK), Daniel Gim, Sylvester Okpe, Chima Akachukwu, Abiodun Abioye, Vincent Adewoye

Probable Top performers

Ben Stevens – Jersey | Leke Oyede – Nigeria

Match 9, UAE vs Ireland

UAE

The UAE batting did a great job in the warm-ups. Chirag Suri and Ashfaq Ahmed are likely the openers. The middle-order is one of the best in the tournament with the likes of Rohan Mustafa, Muhammad Usman and Rameez Shahzad in the ranks. Skipper Waheed Ahmed can also smack the leather a fair distance. He will be a key with the ball with the likes of Zahoor and Junaid Siddiqui.

Probable XI

Chirag Suri, Ashfaq Ahmed, Ghulam Shabber (wk), Rohan Mustafa, Rameez Shahzad, Muhammad Usman, Waheed Ahmed, Ahmed Raza (C), Junaid Siddiqui, Sultan Ahmed, Zahoor Khan

Ireland

Ireland will be powered by Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien at the top. Andy Balbirnie is also in superlative form. The middle order is a tad fragile, though it has chipped in here and there. Having the likes of Adair and Dockrell, both of whom are no mugs with the bat, Ireland has depth in batting. On slow wickets, leg-spinner Gareth Delany and Dockrell’s role will be of prime significance.

Probable XI

Paul Stirling, Kevin O’Brien, Andy Balbirnie, Gareth Delany, Harry Tector, Gary Wilson (C & WK), Mark Adair, George Dockrell, Stuart Thompson, David Delany, Boyd Rankin

Probable Top performers

Ashfaq Ahmed– UAE | Paul Stirling – Ireland
