Australia played Pakistan in Colombo and Sharjah for a 3-Test series where they accomplished another clean sweep, winning two out of the three matches by an innings margin.

Under helpful conditions for Pakistani bowlers, it was Warne who turned the screw on the Pakistan batting lineup, picking up 27 wickets from 3 Tests.

Australia beat England 4-1 at home, once again winning the first four matches consecutively. It was Hayden’s 496 runs and Gillespie’s 20 wickets that helped Australia retain the Ashes as well as the number 1 ranking for the second year running.
