ICC U19 World Cup 2018: Team of the tournament announced
There are five Indian players in the list.
The 2018 edition of the ICC U19 World Cup came to a fitting end with the India U19 lifting the title. The Men in Blue were arguably the most dominant side in the competition and deserved every bit of credit for their win. They thumped the Australia U19 side in the tournament finals for the ultimate glory. The margins of victories of the Indian team speaks volumes about the domination they had in the tournament.
The tournament is done and dusted. Recently, after the conclusion of the tournament, the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the ‘Team of the Tournament’. The list features as many as 5 Indian players. There are players from six different countries in the list. The team was selected by an ICC panel that comprised of some legendary names.
The panel comprised of Ian Bishop, Anjum Chopra, Jeff Crowe, Shashank Kishore and Tom Moody. In the Team of the Tournament, the panel has named South Africa U19 captain Raynard van Tonder as the captain of the team. Tonder aggregated 348 runs in 6 matches in the ICC U19 World Cup this year. This included his highest score of 143 against the Kenya U19 side.
South Africa finished fifth in the tournament. There are five Indian players in the list. India U19 skipper Prithvi Shaw finds a place for his 261 runs tally in the competition. Meanwhile, Player of the Tournament, Shubman Gill gets a place for his aggregate of 372 runs. Manjot Kalra, the man of the finals, gets a position in the team as well.
Also, two bowlers – left arm spinner Anukul Roy (14 wickets) and pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti (9 wickets) get places in the list. There are two more South Africans in the list. Wicketkeeper Wandile Makwetu and pacer Gerald Coetzee get their spots in the list. Pakistan U19 pacer Shaheen Afridi also finds a place following a very impressive outing. Afghanistan U19 spinner Qais Ahmed was a top performer too with his tally of 14 wickets.
