ICC U19 World Cup 2020, Day 10 Round Up – Statistical Highlights

England and Sri Lanka lost first two matches in their respective groups only to be pushed to the plate groups in the ongoing U19 World Cup. They registered big wins in the last group matches and began the plate league with similar victories in the Quarter-Finals. England thumped Japan by 9 wickets whom they bowled out for 93 and chased it down in 11.3 overs only. Sri Lanka posted a solid total of 306/7 while batting first against Nigeria. The target was too big for the Nigerians who lasted only 17.3 overs to score 73 runs before getting bowled out.

All the statistical highlights from England and Sri Lankan wins on Monday:

5 – As many as five batsmen registered ducks for Japan against England. This is only the 3rd instance of five batters getting out for a duck in a Youth ODI inning against England. Five Bangladesh players in the 2008 U19 CWC match and the five of Canada batters during the 2018 U19 CWC game bagged ducks against the English team.


5/36 – Dilshan Madushanka, with his 5/36, became only the 5th player to claim a 5-wicket haul in U19 CWC for Sri Lanka. Dilshan is also the first Sri Lankan with a U19 CWC 5-fer since the start of the 2014 edition.


7 – Ravindu Rasantha became only the 7th Sri Lankan to score a century in U19 Cricket World Cup with the unbeaten 102 against Nigeria. Overall, this was 8th ton in U19 CWC from Sri Lanka as Hasitha Boyagoda struck two tons including a record-breaking 191 during the 2018 edition.


231 – England defeated Japan with 231 balls to spare which is now their 3rd biggest victory in terms of balls in Youth ODI cricket. They chased down the target of 56 against Bermuda with 236 balls to spare in the 2008 U19 CWC. Earlier in their last match, England got the better of Nigeria with 234 balls to spare chasing a target of 59.

However, their victory with 231 balls to spare is now the 2nd biggest in this format for any team while chasing an 80+ target. Pakistan chased down 98 in only 8.5 overs against Ireland during the previous edition.


233 – Sri Lanka’s 233-run win against Nigeria is their 3rd biggest win in Youth ODI cricket in the terms of runs. They defeated Kenya by 311 runs after posting 419 in the 2018 U19 CWC and a registered a 240-run win against Zimbabwe by bundling them out for 63 during the U19 Tri-Nation series in 2017.


1023 – Runs Nipun Dananjaya has aggregated in his Youth ODI career. He is only the 3rd player from Sri Lanka to amass 1000 runs in Youth ODIs after Bhanuka Rajapaksa (1040) and Avishka Fernando (1379).
