Bangladesh Under-19s clinched their maiden U19 CWC after defeating India by three wickets in the final on Sunday. After losing the toss, India started off slowing against disciplined bowling by the Bangladesh pacers. Yashasvi Jaiswal (88) and Tilak Varma (38) added 94 in 22.2 overs for the 2nd wicket to bring momentum. Jaiswal fell at the score of 156/4 in the 40th over trying to up the ante.

Skipper Akbar Ali (43*) and Parvez Hossain (47) made crucial contributions to take the team home without any collapses.
All the statistical highlights from Bangladesh’s maiden U19 Cricket World Cup title victory:
A first for Bangladesh:
1 – This was the first time Bangladesh won a major ICC tournament at any level (Men’s / Women’s / U19). In fact, this was also the first time they reach final of such competition.
2-5 – This was only the second time Bangladesh won a Youth ODI final out of the seven they played and the first in six finals against India. The other win came against Sri Lanka in 2005 Tri-series at home which was also the first Youth ODI final they appeared. Bangladesh featured in five tournament finals in this format between these two wins; all against India and ended up losing all those five.
End of India’s streak:
11 – This was India’s first defeat in a U19 CWC match since the loss in the final of the 2016 edition against West Indies. Their 11-match winning streak is only winning streak of 10+ matches for any team in the U19 CWC.
This is also the 2nd longest unbeaten streak for any team in the U19 CWC. India spent 12 matches across 1998, 2000 and 2002 editions which included a washed out game. Interestingly, both these streak of India came to an end after they faced Bangladesh. These two are the only victories for Bangladesh against India in the U19 CWC.
Chasing teams’ dominance in U19 finals:
5 – For the 5th consecutive time, the U19 CWC final has been won by a chasing team. The last team to win while defending a total was Australia by 25 runs against Pakistan in 2010.
3 – Akbar Ali is only the 3rd captain to remain unbeaten during a successful chase in a U19 CWC final. Unmukt Chand in 2012 against Australia and Aiden Markram in 2014 final against Pakistan are the other two such players.
A record-breaking tournament for Yashasvi Jaiswal:
88 – Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 88 is now the highest score in losing cause in a U19 CWC final. Will Bosisto’s unbeaten 87 in the 2012 U19 CWC final against India was the previous highest U19 CWC final score that resulted in a defeat.
5 – Yashasvi has recorded five fifty-plus scores in this tournament making him only the 3rd player with five 50+ scores in a U19 edition. Brett Williams of Australia in 1988 and Sarfaraz Khan of India in 2016 are the other such players.

A tournament to remember for Ravi Bishnoi:
17 – Ravi Bishnoi’s 17 wickets in this tournament are the most for any bowler. His 17 wickets are also the most for any Indian in a U19 CWC match. As many as four players claimed exactly 14 wickets for India in a U19 CWC edition previously.
3 – The 4-wicket haul in the final is now the 3rd for Ravi Bishnoi in the 2020 U19 CWC. He is the first Indian with three 4-fers in the history of U19 CWC let alone in the same edition.
India’s worst 7-wicket collapse:
21 – India Under-19s went down from 156/3 to 177/10 adding only 21 runs at the loss of seven wickets. These 21 runs are the fewest India added for losing their last seven wickets. Their previous fewer runs in a Youth ODI for losing last seven wickets is 31 runs in the 2002 U19 CWC game against South Africa.
21 – The 21 runs by India for losing their last seven wickets are the 2nd fewest by any team in a Youth ODI final. Australia were bowled out for 75 from 58/3 in the 2013 Top End U19 Tri-series final against India.
India concede in extras and wides:
33 – Number of extra runs that India conceded in this match; the most by them in a U19 CWC match surpassing the 32 extra runs in the 1998 U19 CWC game against South Africa.
The last instance of India conceding as many as 33 extra runs in a Youth ODI was exactly on February 9, 2005 where they gave away 38 runs in England’s total of 169 during the match played in Agartala.
19 – India did concede as many as 19 runs through wides which are the 3rd most by them in a U19 CWC match. These are also the most runs via wides they conceded in a Youth ODI in the last 12 years and the most in a U19 CWC game since the start of 2000 edition.
