ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020: Lizelle Lee's maiden T20I century powers South Africa to a record victory

South Africa Women moved on to the top of the Group B table with a huge 113-run win against Thailand Women on Friday. Lizelle Lee starred for South African team with her maiden T20I century. She shared a 131-run stand with Sune Luus (61*) after the early dismissal of skipper Dane van Niekerk. Lee scored 101 off 60 balls with 16 fours and 3 sixes before getting out in the 16th over. South Africa ended up with a record total of 195/3 and later bundled out the Thailand team to 82.

1 – Lizelle Lee is now the first South African to score a century in the history of the T20 World Cup. The previous highest was 90* by Dane van Niekerk against Pakistan in 2014 Women’s WT20 and also by Herschelle Gibbs against West Indies in the first-ever WT20 match in 2007.
1 – Lizelle Lee is also only the 5th player to score a hundred in Women’s T20 World Cup but the first to do so while opening the innings. The unbeaten 94 by Suzie Bates against Pakistan in the 2014 edition was the previous highest Women’s T20 CWC score by an opening batter.
2 – Lee is now only the 2nd player to score a century for South Africa in Women’s T20I cricket. Shandre Fitz scored an unbeaten 116 against the Netherlands during the 2010 ICC Women’s Cricket Challenge tournament.
5 – Number of centuries in the Twenty20 format for Lizelle Lee – 2 in the WBBL, 1 in KSL, 1 in Domestic T20 and 1 in T20 CWC. She is only the 3rd Women to score as many as five T20 centuries. Danielle Wyatt has scored six T20 tons while Suzie Bates also has five tons in this format [Where known].
Three of Lizelle Lee’s five T20 centuries came on Australian soil (2 in WBBL and 1 in T20 CWC). Only Alyssa Healy (4) and Beth Mooney (3) have scored as many as three T20 hundreds in Australia.
16 – Number of fours Lizelle struck during her century; the 2nd most number of fours by a player in any T20 World Cup match. Meg Lanning struck 18 fours during her 126 against Ireland in 2014 edition.
81.18 – Lizelle Lee scored 82 out of the 101 runs through boundaries against Thailand which accounts for 81.18%. This is the 2nd highest % of runs coming through boundaries in a Women’s T20 CWC innings. (Min: 50 runs) Sophie Devine scored 90.20% of her 51-run knock during the 2018 edition match against Ireland. She scored 46 runs only through 7 fours and 3 sixes.
113 – The 113-run win for South Africa is now the first-ever winning margin of 100+ runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup. The previous biggest win in terms of runs in Women’s T20 CWC was England’s 98-run win against Thailand two days back. This is also the 2nd biggest T20I win for South Africa Women in terms of runs. They defeated Netherlands in the 2010 Potchefstroom T20I by a 115-run margin.
131 – The partnership of 131 between Lizelle Lee and Sune Luus is now the highest stand in Women’s T20 World Cup for the 2nd wicket. The previous highest was 118* by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and Allan Watkins against Australia in the 2009 edition match.
195/3 – South Africa’s total of 195/3 is now the highest by any team in the Women’s T20 World Cup. They went past India’s total of 194/5 which they scored against New Zealand in the 2018 edition. Overall, this is South Africa’s 2nd highest total in Women’s T20Is behind their 205/1 against the Netherlands in 2010.
