India Women will be locking horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in Match 4 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 clash at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on March 6. India head into this competition after a 4-1 ODI series loss at the hands of the hosts New Zealand. However, the Mithali Raj-led side can take heart from the fact that they have won 13 ODI matches losing the other 15 since 2019 which is not a bad ratio. They won their respective warm-up fixtures against South Africa by two runs and the West Indies by 81 runs respectively.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have played 34 One Day Internationals since the last edition of the Women’s World Cup in 2017 but, have only managed to win 11 of them and faced defeat on 21 occasions with a win percentage of 32. The Bismah Maroof-led side also won both their warm-up matches. They pulled off an upset over the hosts New Zealand by four wickets before going on to register a seven-run win against the Asian rivals Bangladesh by DLS Method.

Pitch Report:

The tournament opener saw West Indies post a stiff total of 259/9 against the Black Caps. The hosts seemed to be in control of the proceedings as they made a statement during the run chase only to agonizingly fall short by three runs in the final over as the Stafanie Taylor-led side pulled off a huge upset against one of the strong title contenders.

Taking this into account, any total in excess of 250 can be a match-winning one, and the Bay Oval surface will certainly help the batters once they settle down in the middle irrespective of the first or the second innings. Nonetheless, the captain calling it right at the toss would look to bat first.
