ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Stats Review: Alyssa Healy’s records, Jhulan Goswami’s feat, and other stats

The 12th edition of the Women’s World Cup is done and dusted and it’s Australia who lifted the trophy for a staggering seventh time in the history of the tournament. The Kangaroos defeated rivals and defending champions England by 71 runs in the final at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch to continue their utter domination in the competition. Alyssa Healy stole the limelight as she single-handedly tore apart the English bowling line-up by smashing 170 runs off 138 deliveries.

With this knock, Healy entered the record books as she registered the highest individual score in a World Cup final in both Men’s and Women’s tournaments. The record was previously held by another Aussie Adam Gilchrist who had hammered 149 runs against Sri Lanka in the 2007 final. Australia remained unbeaten in this World Cup as they played nine matches and won all of them. Since the loss to India in the semi-final of the 2017 edition, the Women in Yellow have won 40 out of the 42 ODIs.

Healy shattered many records on her way to a breathtaking innings of 170 runs. She became the first batter to score twin hundreds in the knockouts of an ODI World Cup. The marquee event which spanned for almost a month in New Zealand saw some really exciting matches that took place between the eight teams. Apart from Healy who grabbed all the headlines in the final, there were many other records that were created and broken by the players during the course of the tournament.

Let’s take a look at some of the important stats and numbers from the Women’s World Cup 2022:

 7 – Australia clinched the trophy for the record seventh time. Out of the 12 editions held so far, England have won four times and New Zealand once.

170 – Alyssa Healy scripted the highest individual score in both Men’s and Women’s World Cup finals. The previous best was by Adam Gilchrist who scored 149 against Sri Lanka in the 2007 WC.

1 – Healy registered the most runs (509) in a single edition of a Women’s WC. Her opening partner Rachael Haynes is second on the list for scoring 497 runs in this WC itself.

1 – Jhulan Goswami (43) surpassed Lyn Fullston (39) and is now the highest wicket-taker in World Cup tournaments.

2 – Mithali Raj (1321) went past Janette Brittin’s tally of 1299 runs and is now the second-highest run-getter in the World Cups.

3 – South Africa appeared in the semi-final for the third time and lost as many times. They got defeated by Australia in 2000 and England in 2017.

1 – Healy became the first batter to smash two hundreds in the knockouts of an ODI World Cup. She scored a century in the semi-final against West Indies. Ricky Ponting and Mahela Jayawardene have recorded the tons but in different editions.

1 – Healy’s knock of 170 runs is the highest by a wicketkeeper in Women’s ODIs. The previous best was by Rachael Priest who scored 157 runs against Sri Lanka in the year 2015.

40 – Australia have now won 40 out of the last 42 ODIs since the 2017 WC.

201 – Jhulan Goswami reached the landmark of appearing in 200 ODIs.

3 – Australia have now won three consecutive World Cups, including the T20 World Cups. They also clinched two T20 WCs in the years 2018 and 2020.

1 – Mithali Raj (11) surpassed Debbie Hockley (10) and has now scored the most fifties in World Cups.

1 – Mithali (13) also leapfrogged Hockley (12) and has now smashed the most 50-plus scores in the marquee events.

2 – Natalie Sciver’s knock of 148* is the second-highest score in a run-chase in Women’s ODIs. Meg Lanning is on the top for scoring 152* against Sri Lanka in 2017.

252 – Jhulan Goswami reached 250 wickets in ODIs.

1 – Meg Lanning equaled Ricky Ponting (4) and both are now joint-top for winning four ICC trophies.

2 – Healy scripted the second-highest individual score (170) for Australia in ODIs. Belinda Clark tops the chart for amassing 229* against Denmark in 1997.

1 – Australia recorded the highest team total (356/5) in the final of any WC edition. England who scored 285 runs in the same match occupies the second spot.

3 – The Women in Yellow also registered the third-highest total in ODIs. They scored 412/3 against Denmark and 397/4 against Pakistan in the same 1997 year.

2 – 641 runs were scored in the final between Australia and England which is the second-highest match aggregate in Women’s ODIs. The highest is 678 runs between England and South Africa in the year 2017.

1 – Rachael Haynes and Healy scripted the highest partnership (160 runs) in the final of any WC. The second-highest partnership of 156 runs also occurred in the same 2022 final between Healy and Beth Mooney.
