ICC World Cup 2019: 10 legends of the game who never won the trophy
Some writers often describe the trophy to be unlucky to not get wrapped in the hands of some cricketers and honestly, it is not completely exaggerated.
10. Sir Ian Botham
English cricket’s poster boy back in the 1980s, there were very few as enigmatic and dynamic as Sir Ian Botham. The Cheshire born all-rounder directed some of English cricket’s finest triumphs during his playing career, but a World Cup triumph was something he or his team could never materialize.
Botham helped the Three Lions reach the finals in his first ever outing in 1979 under the leadership of Mike Brearley. Courtesy his brilliance, England managed to reach the finals in 1987 and 1992, but history repeated itself and he never could lay hands on the trophy. He and Graham Gooch are the only players to be a part of three World Cup final defeats. He called it time to his career after Pakistan defeat the Englishmen to win the World Cup in 1992.
