Persistent rain in the second half of the day during the 1st semi-final of the World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand in Manchester took the game into the reserve day. The ground staff and officials tried their best to get the game down in the actual match day but the rain never really stopped. The outfield remained wet pushing the game into reserve day. New Zealand, who ended at 211/5 in 46.1 on Tuesday, resumed on Wednesday morning and added 28 runs in the remaining 23 balls at the cost of three wickets.

Had the Blackcaps’ innings not resumed, it would have been assumed that New Zealand finished on 244. However, the Kiwis ended five runs short of the DLS formulae due to some good death bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. On a track that was getting slow down, India’s top order was rattled by Matt Henry and Trent Boult cheaply.

India were three down for just 5 runs on the board by the start of the 4th over. Rohit and Rahul were caught behind off Henry while Kohli was trapped in front by Boult what turned out to be umpire’s call on hitting. The Indian top three who scored the bulk of runs in the league phase got out scoring exactly one run apiece. Dinesh Karthik too fell at the end of the first powerplay as India lost four wickets for just 24 runs on the board after ten overs.

Indian fans would be hoping to see the return of the rain before the completion of 20 overs. If the rain doesn’t allow play before the completion of 20 overs which is required to constitute an ODI, India will go through to the final as they finished at No.1 in the league stage while New Zealand at No.4. With rain around the corner in the afternoon at the Old Trafford, India need to stay ahead of the Duckworth Lewis Stern par score.

As they are four wickets down already, it will be tough for India as they need to start scoring at 6 runs an over. The current pair of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya can switch gears at any point. Team India has to score more than 163 for the loss of four wickets or over 177 runs at the cost of five wickets in 40 overs. The clouds are expected to open up around 1 PM local time and India would have played at least 25 overs by then.

Here are the DLS par scores for Team India in the 1st semi-final:
