ICC World Cup 2019: 5 fielders who saved most number of runs in less matches

The 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup had ended with a thrilling Super Over finish by English side lifting the silverware, after registering a marginal victory against the Kiwis in the much-talked grand finale. The extravaganza ended on a very high note as the last game i.e. the final of the mega-event was a high-octane thriller and will be etched with the golden letters in the history of cricketing books. The match was arguably the greatest cricket match and one of the best in the history of sports.

Apart from the thrilling final, the World Cup witnessed many other things as well. The championship saw some mouth-watering batting performances and awesomesauce staging by the bowlers. These two factors worked as the icing on the cake and made the tournament even better.

However, one particular feature, which added more amusing ingredients in the World Cup was the fielding of the players. Throughout almost two months, the viewers were able to witness some extremely exhilarating and intense fielding efforts which even changed the fate of the matches.

Even in the finals, it was a fielding error which made the game reach a crucial juncture. The Indian team’s World Cup campaign was also ended with a brilliant run out by Martin Guptill to dismiss MS Dhoni.

5. Marcus Stoinis – 27 runs

The Australian all-rounder had a very poor edition of the Cricket World Cup. The 29-year-old Marcus Stoinis performed extremely poor with the bat and was below par with the ball as well. His inability to strike wickets in the middle overs and score runs during death overs literally weakened the Aussie line-up.

However, one facet, where the 29-year old did exceptionally well was fielding. The Perth-born was one of the best fielders of the tournament and saved a total of 27 runs by fielding. In the 8 games Stoinis played, he defended 27 runs, with 19 of them being saved inside the circle of 30-year. The rest 8 runs were saved in the outer ring.
