ICC World Cup 2019: CSA launches South Africa’s jersey for the tournament
The Proteas will play the tournament opener against England.
South Africa has been one of the most promising teams in the history of the World Cup. Ever since their reinstatement into the tournament in 1992, the Proteas have churned out some stupendous victories and have managed to capture the imaginations of supporters across the globe. However, the team hasn’t yet been able to get its hands on the coveted trophy.
South Africa have progressed to the semi-finals of the World Cup on a number of instances, but haven’t been able to go further. Back in 1999, hara-kiri from Lance Klusener and Allan Donald denied the Proteas a berth in the final after they needed one run off the last three deliveries. Back in 2003, the cursed Duckworth Lewis (D/L) System resulted in their ouster.
In the last edition of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, South Africa bowed out after their four-wicket defeat against New Zealand where Grant Elliot of the Black Caps turned out to be the Player of the Match. Going into the upcoming edition in England and Wales, set to get underway on May 30, a lot would be expected of the team, captained by Faf du Plessis.
CSA launches new South Africa outfit
The Proteas will play their first match on the tournament’s opening day against hosts England at the Kennington Oval in London. A few whiles ago, the squad was also announced. South Africa have been in excellent form of late, having won most of their bilateral tournaments. Their recent victories came against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, where they won eight games out of 10.
The Proteas tasted their last defeat in ODIs way back in February 2018 when Virat Kohli’s India slapped them with a 5-1 drubbing. In the meantime, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has also launched the jersey for the much-awaited mega event. The front and back of the outfit have light green even as the arms have dark green with shades of black in it.
