ICC World Cup 2019: Harsha Bhogle opines on Virat Kohli batting at number four
"I would like to ask where Virat wants to bat."
India Men’s Cricket Team is never out of the news and it’s impossible for that to happen especially when it has the outspoken Ravi Shastri as the head coach. The Mumbaikars’ recent interview to a leading cricket website has given the media and the fans a lot to talk about as he revealed glimpses of the success mantra of the Test side as well as some plans for the upcoming ICC World Cup in the same.
Shastri disclosed that the team might play Virat Kohli at the number 4 position in the World Cup. A lot of fans of the game had negative opinions about the thought of the decision. Senior Commentator and the Voice of Cricket Harsha Bhogle said that the Indian Captain should himself decide his batting position for the all-important tournament in England and Wales.
Shikhar, Rohit and KL Rahul have been superb
Giving his opinion on the pre-match show of the 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand on CricBuzz Live, Harsha Bhogle said that the numbers Virat Kohli have delivered at number 3 and number 4 have been sensational. Furthermore, he believes that the skipper has got the ability to play in any position.
Harsha added that there is no reason to change the position, especially, by fearing to lose a wicket. Further, he believes that Kohli can negate the conditions by playing at number 3 and help India not to lose an extra wicket.
“India’s openers are in brilliant form. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit and KL Rahul have been superb, which saw Virat Kohli being changed to number 4. He has been superb at four. But, I am not sure about the reason behind to bat at number 4 that you are afraid, he would get out. By being at number 3, he can negate the conditions,” Harsha Bhogle quoted.
”I don’t agree to bat him at number 4 because you are afraid of him batting at number 4. But, if they are trying for the balance by dropping him to number 4, it is okay. And, if we think that only batsman can win, we have already lost the game. Because there would be bad days for top 3 and good days for 4,5 and 6 batsmen,” he added.
He put forth Sachin Tendulkar’s example and concluded that the best batsman should get most opportunities to win you games. ”I would like to ask where Virat wants to bat. That is what happened with Sachin Tendulkar. Because the best batsman knows when to bat for the team and win the game. I would also want to see someone telling Virat that the conditions are tough, you bat down the order,” Bhogle mentioned.
