Pakistan recently announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 to be played in England and Wales from May 30. The squad had many surprising inclusions along with the opener Abid Ali, who made a historic ODI debut scoring a century against Australia in UAE. That was the highest score by a Pakistan batsman in his first one-dayer.
The 31-year-old Abid Ali will now travel to England for a five-match one-dayers and one-off ODI against Ireland. This will be part of Pakistan’s preparation for the mega ICC event. Abid had revealed that he wishes to receive some batting tips from India batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the World Cup.
Abid wants a hug and batting tips from Sachin Tendulkar
The cricketing relations between India and Pakistan remained strained, due to the political vendetta between the two countries. However, this hasn’t dampened Abid’s hopes of getting a hug and some batting tips from the legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar. The little master holds the best batting records comprising his Test runs (15,921), one-day runs (18,426), Test hundreds (51) and one-day centuries (49).
“It’s my wish and hope to meet Sachin Tendulkar. Definitely, I would like to hug him and I am sure just like all other legendary players meet youngsters, I would want to meet him. When I meet him, I hope he gives me tips ahead of the World Cup,” Abid told reporters.
“It will be the best day in my life when I meet him (Tendulkar) because he was one of the best batsmen. West Indian Viv Richards was also great so I want to meet all the great players and learn from them,” said Abid.
Abid said that he had followed Sachin’s batting technique since his early days and compared him to Pakistan greats like Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf. “If I meet him, I would like to get some advice on how to develop mental and technical strength, which will help me improving my batting. Tendulkar’s record is awesome. I will do my best and when I get a chance to play for Pakistan and make a name for myself,” Abid signed off.
