ICC World Cup 2019: Inzamam-ul-Haq names the favourites of the tournament
He also talked about Pakistan's 0-5 defeat against Australia.
The exhilaration and enthusiasm, amongst the cricket aficionados, is increasing by leaps and bounds as the Cricket World Cup 2019 is around the corner. The biggest extravaganza of cricket will kickstart on 30th May and will conclude on the 14th of July. The tournament will be played in the round-robin format wherein 10 teams will take part and each team will face the other nine teams. The tourney will be hosted by England and Wales and will feature a total of 48 matches.
As the CWC 2019 is approaching closer, the teams, the fans and the experts have all tightened their seatbelts and are all set to take part in this cricket pageant. On one hand, the teams are toiling hard to do well during the World Cup, whilst the experts and pundits of the cricketing fraternity, on the other hand, are busy analysing teams’ strengths and weaknesses.
According, to the current circumstances, India and England are considered to be the two favourites of the upcoming tournament. Teams like Australia and New Zealand are also looking very solid on paper and can turn out to be one of the contenders of the silverware. All of a sudden, the Windies too have started to look extremely strong and it won’t be surprising if they spring some surprises in the tourney.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq picks Pakistan as the favourites
Amidst all these hearsays and analysis, the former Pakistani Cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his opinions over the probable top performer of the World Cup 2019. The guy had a very strange pick as he chose Pakistan as the favourites to win the tournament. Pakistan are currently the 6th ranked ODI side and has recently been vanquished by Australia in the ODI series. The team currently looks weaker when compared to other international teams and winning the World Cup seems a road too far for them.
Howbeit, Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is currently the chief selector of PCB, has backed the Men In Green. The 49-year old, in a recent interaction with the reporters, said, “I am confident we will pick a very good team for the World Cup and Pakistan will be among the favourites for the title.”
He further explained the reason behind Pakistan being thrashed by Australia. On this topic, Inzamam said, “Against Australia, we had rested seven of our key players and in the last two games we had rested around 10 of our main players but the team still fought hard in those matches and that is a very good sign for me.”
“These players needed rest before the World Cup and we have a hectic schedule in England going into the tournament that is why we rested them and we also wanted to try out our bench strength,” the former Pakistani skipper concluded.
