ICC World Cup 2019: Kuldeep Yadav picks his favorites to win the tournament
"I think all the other teams are really strong."
The quadrennial ICC event- the 2019 cricket World Cup will commence on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales. The tournament will revert back to the format used in 1992 World Cup when each team played one another once in a round robin format and the top four teams went into the semi-finals.
The 2019 edition of the mega tournament will see ten teams participating for the coveted trophy and the title of World Champions. The top-ranked eight teams got a direct entry into the event, while a qualifier tournament decided the last two spots, which Afghanistan and the Windies received after ending up as the winners and runners-up of the qualifiers respectively in Zimbabwe.
Kuldeep Yadav picks his choice of team to watch out for
Everyone is trying to put in names of their favorites to win the tournament and one name is common amongst them, the hosts England. Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav, too, has picked England as one of the teams to look out for during the World Cup.
“We definitely have the chance to bring the World Cup home. Apart from us, I think all the other teams are really strong. But I feel England has a strong batting lineup as compared to the other teams. They will be playing in home conditions. I think Pakistan will also perform well in the World Cup looking at the way they have been performing. So, I think England and Pakistan will be the ones to watch out for,” Kuldeep Yadav was quoted saying by Sports Tak.
Given that they are hosting the mega ICC event at their home, England are well versed in conditions and pitches on which the matches will be played. Also, their theory of batting the opposition out of the game has proved rich dividends, given that they broke the record of the highest team total in ODIs twice in the last 4 years and now hold the record with a total of 481/6 to their names.
Their batting depth and all-around abilities don’t have another equal in any other teams. On the other hand, Pakistan had scripted a memorable win in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, defeating India in a one-sided final match and becoming the champions. They have the quality to come back from any situation and win the match and perhaps the trophy as well as they did in 1992.
