Rohit Sharma continued where he left against England on Sunday to put India on driver’s seat against Bangladesh with his 4th century of the tournament. Rohit made most of the early life he was given as he struck seven fours and five maximums in his 92-ball 104. The Indian vice-captain failed to convert this hundred into a big one, like he usually does, for the 2nd time in a row. He showed intent straight away by hitting six in the very first over; something that went missing from him in the previous game.
All the records and stats created by Rohit Sharma with his century against Bangladesh:
2 – Rohit Sharma became only the 2nd player to score back to back hundreds in the World Cup for India. Rahul Dravid achieved this feat in the 1999 edition where he scored tons against Kenya and Sri Lanka.
2 – Rohit is only the 2nd player to hit as many as four tons in a single edition of World Cup. Kumar Sangakkara also scored four hundreds in the 2015 edition.
3 – Rohit has scored a century against Bangladesh in all three ICC ODI tournament games he faced; the joint-most centuries by any player against an opponent in ICC ODI tournaments.
AB de Villiers also has three tons against the Windies across five matches in ICC ODI tourneys. ABD, in fact, scored century all three times he faced the Windies in the World Cup.
3 – The 32-year-old has scored a century in his previous three ODI innings in Birmingham. Thus, Rohit became the first player to hit three successive ODI tons at a venue in England and the 2nd Indian to achieve this feat at any venue. Virat Kohli scored three in a row at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.
5 – The Indian opener now has five centuries in the World Cup; the 2nd most by any player. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with six tons while Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara have five tons apiece.
6 – Rohit’s six centuries in ICC ODI tournaments are the joint 2nd most for any player. Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly top the record with seven hundreds apiece. Rohit is levelled on 2nd with Shikhar Dhawan, Ponting and Sangakkara with six each.
14 – Number of ODI centuries outside Asia for Rohit; the most by any Indian. Sharma went past Virat Kohli’s tally of 13 hundreds in this match.
53 – Rohit became the first Indian and only the 6th player to hit 50 or more sixes in major ICC Tournaments. With first of his five sixes, Rohit went past Yuvraj Singh’s tally of 48 sixes across CWC, T20 CWC and CT for India.
207 – Innings Rohit needed for his 26th ODI century; the 3rd fewest for any player. Only Hashim Amla (154) and Virat Kohli (166) are ahead of Rohit. The opener is also only the 6th player to score as many as 26 ODI centuries.
544 – Rohit’s 544 runs in this tournament thus far are the 2nd most by any Indian in a World Cup edition. Sachin Tendulkar amassed 673 runs in the 2003 edition hosted by Africa.
2028 – Rohit completed 2000 runs in major ICC Tournaments (CWC, T20 CWC and CT); the 11th player and the 3rd Indian to achieve this milestone. Rohit needed 50 innings for this milestone which is the 3rd fewest among the 11 players. Interestingly, the other two Indians Sachin Tendulkar (40) and Virat Kohli (48) are the only players to reach 2000 runs in ICC tournaments quicker than Rohit.
