ICC World Cup 2019: Mashrafe Mortaza confirms the mega event to be his last
He also said that he won't put any extra pressure on him.
Mashrafe Mortaza is a colossal personality of Bangladesh cricket over the past many years. The 35-year-old has garnered loads of laurels and appreciation in his illustrious career. The Narail Express doesn’t play Test and T20I cricket currently but has been expertly plying his trade in the ODI format. He is next scheduled to captain the Tigers in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.
Bangladesh are set to play their opening match against South Africa on Sunday, June 2 at the Kennington Oval in London and the whole nation would be praying for him. In the meantime, the 35-year-old veteran has said that the most-awaited World Cup would be his last in the mega event but also hinted that he might continue playing the game after the 50-overs extravaganza.
It’s just another big tournament for us
“It is not a matter of probably; for sure this is my last World Cup. But surely it is not going be my last interaction with you (media). But I will not let any extra on me because of it going to be my last World Cup. It’s also not that I will take any extra preparations,” Mashrafe was quoted as saying to the reporters in his last official press conference with the local media before the World Cup.
Talking about himself and how his team would approach during the 50-overs tournament, a confident Mashrafe remarked: “It’s just another big tournament for us as want to play well to make it memorable. I will try to perform as a player and as a captain. Nothing is impossible, but it will be very important for us to handle the ups and downs.”
Mashrafe played his first World Cup in 2007 and has played 16 matches in the tournament. In those games, he picked up 18 wickets with best figures of 4/38 against India in Port of Spain in 2007, a bowling spell that earned him the Player of the Match award. To his delight, the Tigers also defeated the Men in Blue in the encounter and the victory helped them progress to the next round.
