ICC World Cup 2019: Match 22, India vs Pakistan – DLS targets for Pakistan
India posted 305/4 in 46.4 overs at the first rain intervention.
The rain gods did allow the beginning of the much-awaited game between India and Pakistan as the forecasts of the Manchester weather threatened a washout. Sarfaraz Ahmed became the first captain to bowl first in an IND-PAK World Cup game expecting the conditions to favour them. However, Rohit Sharma’s attacking approach was well balanced by his new opening partner KL Rahul.
The duo added 136 for the first wicket before Rahul got out scoring 57. Rohit took the role of aggressor in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan as he raced to a 34-ball fifty; his fastest fifty in this format. He took 52 further deliveries to complete his century and became the first Indian to hit back to back centuries against their arch-rivals Pakistan.
Rohit scored an unbeaten 111 while leading the team during the last year’s Asia Cup fixture. He eventually fell for 140 that came in only 113 balls with 14 fours and three maximums. The vice-captain and captain Virat Kohli added 98 for the second wicket as India were 234/2 in the 39th over. Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni got out in the bowling of Mohammad Amir trying for the big shots.
Kohli kept the scoring rate intact from one end after Rohit’s dismissals with an unbeaten 62-ball 71 before the rain break. He was batting with Vijay Shankar when umpires took the players off the field with India’s score reading 305/4 in 46.4 overs. With a lot of time remaining before the overs start getting reduced, India could come back for at least a couple of overs if not for a full 50-over fixture.
Here are the possible DLS targets for Pakistan:
In case of India not batting again, Pakistan would be chasing 327 in 46 overs. The target for the Champions Trophy 2017 winners would be 184 in case of a 20-over chase. In case of India returning for completion of their innings, 8 runs would be added to their total in case of a 49-over game. 15 and 23 runs would be added respectively in Pakistan’s target if the game is reduced to 48 and 47 overs respectively.
