Before the 2019 World Cup, India was deemed to be one of the contenders to win the championship. The team, led by Virat Kohli, has indeed played like the favorites and has won three out of their four games, the other match against New Zealand being washed off. Placed fourth in the points table, the Men in Blue are next set to lock horns with Afghanistan on Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

At the very venue, India beat South Africa in their first match. The Afghans, on the contrary, are gasping for breath after losing all their five matches of the mega event. Gulbadin Naib and Co are the current cellar dwellers of the tournament and need something miraculous from here on to turn their fortunes. There have been sparks of brilliance here and there, but the team has lacked in performing consistently.

Here is the guide to select the Captain and Vice-Captain for Dream11 Fantasy:

Captain Suggestions:

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is in the middle of a purple patch, having notched 319 runs in three matches at a gigantic average of 159.50. He would’ve been disappointed after getting out on 57 versus the Aussies, but he made amends, scoring 140 in the next game. The Afghan bowling hasn’t looked good by any means and the 32-year-old Rohit has another chance of notching a huge score.

Virat Kohli

The Delhi-born Virat Kohli got out cheaply versus South Africa. Nevertheless, the Indian skipper came back with scores of 82 and 77. In both the innings, he put his head down at the start, but gradually accelerated as he got the measure of the conditions. With 177 runs at an average of 59, Kohli is in a good rhythm and he’ll want to carry his decent form in the upcoming game as well.

KL Rahul

The biggest challenge for KL Rahul was to fill in the colossal shoes of Shikhar Dhawan as the opening batsman. The right-hander lived up to the expectations versus Pakistan as he got 57 runs in a 136-run stand with Rohit. Though at 76.42, his strike-rate has been a tad on the lower side, the 27-year-old is expected to gather more momentum as the tournament progresses.

Vice-Captain Suggestions:

Hashmatullah Shahidi

Hashmatullah Shahidi has arguably been the Afghans’ most prolific batsman of the mega event. The southpaw has thus far notched 165 runs at an average of 33. He also boasts of scores of 59 and 76 while facing the strong New Zealand and English bowling attack. Shahidi puts a price tag on his wicket and is someone who can be trusted when the team is in trouble.

Gulbadin Naib

Gulbadin Naib has looked good in patches in this World Cup. Versus England, he had a reasonable day in the office. Moreover, he promoted himself as the opener and showed his intent right from the outset. In that game, he picked up three wickets at the death and also churned out a breezy knock of 37. He’ll need to be on top his game if the Afghans are to challenge India.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep couldn’t quite do well in the first couple of games and also went for quite a few runs. But the delivery he bowled to dismiss Babar Azam remains to be one of the best balls of the tournament. Then he picked up Fakhar Zaman to turn the match completely in India’s favour. The Afghan batsmen will have their task cut out while facing the chinaman bowler.
