Bangladesh will be looking to keep their semi-final hopes alive when they take on struggling yet dangerous Bangladesh in Southampton. Afghanistan, on the other hand, will be eyeing their first point and win of the ongoing tournament. The Gulbadin-led side’s chances of progressing ahead are finished after they suffered their sixth consecutive defeat of the tournament on Saturday. Afghanistan is the only team in the tournament that is yet to win a game. Bangladesh are in a slightly better position than Afghanistan at the sixth spot.

Bangladesh will have their confidence sky high when they take the field against Afghanistan. They did suffer a loss in their last outing against Australia but will definitely take confidence from their performance. After conceding 381 runs, Bangladesh ended their innings on a commendable 333 for 8. Before that, they had chased down 321 in less than 42 overs against West Indies. Thus while momentum is slightly in Bangladesh’s side at the moment and they will be looking to make the most it.

On the other hand, Afghanistan are reeling at the tenth spot on the points table. However, they too will be confident of beating Bangladesh at the moment. After five poor outings, they gave much superior India a run for their money on Saturday. Afghanistan competed well with both bat and ball before losing the thriller by just 11 runs. With the ball, they restricted India to 224 for 8. In reply, they finished their innings on 213.

Bangladesh are definitely the favourites at the moment but they should guard against complacency. Afghanistan has enjoyed good success against the Tigers in recent times. In last year’s Asia Cup, Afghanistan had thrashed the Tigers by 136 and are more than capable of winning again.
