New Zealand will be looking to bounce back and seal their semifinal spot with a win against high-flying defending champions Australia at Lord’s on Saturday. While Australia have already sealed their spot in the last four, New Zealand needs one more point for the same. With 11 points from seven games, New Zealand are currently third in the points table while Australia are at the top with 12 points.

The last time these two teams had met in the World Cup, it had ended in heartbreak for New Zealand. Australia had thrashed them in the final of the 2015 World Cup to seal their fifth title. Thus New Zealand will be extra motivated to win this Trans-Tasman battle. A loss for New Zealand could land them in hot water and could very well jeopardise their plans of progressing ahead. They will take on hosts England in their final game and if they lose against Australia, their final league game could become a knockout for them.

New Zealand enters this crucial clash on the back of a thumping loss at the hands of Pakistan. New Zealand just could not deliver on that day either with the bat or ball and suffered a six-wicket defeat. They were reeling at 83 for 5 at one stage before the fifties from Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme helped them post a respectable 237 for 6. With the ball, they managed to give a good fight but eventually lost by six wickets.

On the other hand, Australia comes into this game after thrashing England by 64 runs in their last outing at the same ground. A century from skipper Aaron Finch helped them post 285 before Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Starc ran through the English lineup. England was eventually all out for just 281.

How’s the weather expected to be

The weather forecast for the crucial tie is promising. According to AccuWeather, the chances of rainfall are zero per cent during the game time. The cloud cover will be in the 20 per cent in the first half of the match and will gradually decrease with the passage of time. Throughout the day, the temperature will be hovering between 18 to 32 degree Celsius.
