ICC World Cup 2019: Match 40, Bangladesh vs India – Best Memes from the Match
Bangladesh tried their best and got really close but still fell short of the Indian challenge by 28 runs.
Bangladesh tried their hearts out to beat India at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, eventually, it was Virat Kohli and Co, who turned out to be a bit too strong and emerged victorious by 28 runs. Moreover, India also became the third team to qualify for the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. Though the Tigers’ lost, Mashrafe Mortaza’s men can hold their heads high for putting up a strong show.
After winning the toss, India got off to a superlative start as Rohit Sharma (104) and KL Rahul (77) put on 180 for the opening wicket in 29.2 overs. When Rohit was on nine, Tamim Iqbal dropped him at deep mid-wicket and the batter made them pay with his fourth century of this mega event. Rahul also got to his fifty off 57 balls. Soumya Sarkar gave the Tigers’ the much-needed breakthrough, dismissing Rohit.
Soon after, Rubel Hossain found Rahul’s outside edge. Virat Kohli (26) fell to a deceptive short ball from Mustafizur Rahman. Rishabh Pant (48) and MS Dhoni (35) got the runs, but the Indian innings didn’t quite get adequate momentum in the death overs. The Men in Blue ended with 314 runs in their 50 overs. Mustafizur didn’t allow the batsmen to get away with his third five-wicket haul versus India.
Shakib and Saifuddin’s efforts go in vain
Tamim Iqbal (22) and Soumya Sarkar (33) took the Tigers off to a steady start courtesy of a 39-run partnership off 9.3 overs. Mohammed Shami castled Tamim to separate them. Sarkar became Pandya’s first victim. The reliable Shakib Al Hasan (66) and Mushfiqur Rahim (24) tried hard before the latter swept one off Chahal into the hands of Shami. Liton Das (22) succumbed to a short ball from Pandya.
Pandya jolted Bangladesh badly, nipping out Shakib with a well disguised slower delivery. At that point in time, the Tigers needed 136 runs in 16 overs. Mosaddek Hossain perished cheaply. Mohammad Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman (36) kept their team alive with a hard-fought stand of 66 runs.
Bumrah got the wicket of Sabbir, but Saifuddin didn’t throw in the towel. He kept playing his strokes and got his second ODI fifty off 37 balls. Bumrah bowled a couple of searing yorkers to dismiss Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur, and pulled the curtains down on the game and also on the Tigers’ semi-final chances.
