ICC World Cup 2019: Match 41, ENG v NZ – England Player Ratings
In all likelihood, it will be Australia, India, England and New Zealand playing the semi-finals with Pakistan practically knocked out.
Jason Roy set the tone for England early on with his aggressive batting. The team has looked quite different ever since his comeback and has played fearless cricket. Roy scored almost run-a-ball 60 and smashed 8 boundaries. However, he failed to get to a much-deserved hundred for the second time in a row.

Jonny Bairstow – 9.5/10
There were plenty of overs left for Joe Root and he could have easily played the role of an anchor. He tried to play the hook shot but found the edge. However, he seemed extremely confident that he didn’t nick it. The Test skipper even decided to challenge the umpire but wasted the review. He mustered 24 runs off 25 balls.
Jos Buttler – 1.5/10
Jos Buttler was promoted up the batting order and had the right kind of platform set for his style of play. But what was disappointing was his shot selection. The wicket-keeper batsman played a terrible shot to get out instead of capitalizing on the situation and could only accrue 11 runs. He even was involved in a run-out and a stump out.
Eoin Morgan – 5.5/10
Since he was running out of partners at the other end, Eoin Morgan had to play the submissive role initially. He didn’t have the liberty to play the big shots and tried to play some risk-free cricket. However, he got off to a start and scored 42 runs. He could have finished the innings on a high but it took an exceptional catch from Mitchell Santner to get rid of him.
Ben Stokes – 4/10
Ben Stokes really struggled with the bat and had a torrid time out in the middle. He couldn’t find a single boundary and consumed 27 balls to score just 11 runs. However, he made up for this with the ball with some tight bowling. He bowled 5 overs in the innings and just conceded 10 runs and even dismissed Colin de Grandhomme.
Chris Woakes – 4.5/10
Chris Woakes, opening the bowling for England, dismissed Henry Nicholls right in the first over for a golden duck. But after that, he couldn’t make a huge impact. In his 8 overs, he conceded 44 runs at an economy rate of 5.50.
Liam Plunkett – 7/10
Liam Plunkett was excellent in this game and bowled an extremely economical spell. Even though he took a while to pick his first wicket, he took the important scalp of Tom Latham who was setting himself up for a huge score.
Adil Rashid – 3.5/10
Ross Taylor wasn’t really certain about the second run but decided to take a chance with Adil Rashid. The leg-spinner, however, pulled off a brilliant and accurate throw right on the top of stumps. Jos Buttler didn’t take too long to dislodge the stumps. He wrapped up the New Zealand innings by dismissing Trent Boult in the 45th over.
Jofra Archer – 7/10
It was extremely tough to face Jofra Archer in this game. The batsmen couldn’t score any runs off his bowling easily. Archer was the one who dismissed the dangerous Martin Guptill who has got the potential of taking the game away from the opposition.
Mark Wood – 8/10
Mark Wood had a good outing in this match. Apart from inflicting a lucky run-out of Kane Williamson, he even dismissed the likes of James Neesham and Mitchell Santner. He was pretty accurate throughout and attacked the stumps. Wood later dismissed Matt Henry as well finishing with a three-wicket haul.
