Cricket’s biggest event, the World Cup, of the year is only 100 days away. With each passing day, the excitement is only increasing and experts are having friendly banters on the playing XI for each team and predicting who will take the trophy home. Former England captain Michael Vaughan, too, has joined the bandwagon as he took to micro-blogging site Twitter to predict the two finalists and also the winner.

Vaughan, who played his last ODI in 2007, has predicted that India and England will meet in the finals and it will be the hosts who will keep the trophy home. India and England are indeed the two strongest teams in the 50-overs format right now. India have won the World Cup twice – in 1983 and 2011, while England have never won it. Their best performances came in 1979, 1987 and 1992 when they ended as the losing finalists.

“100 days till England go about Winning the World Cup … Beating India in the final is my prediction … !!!!,” the 44-year-old tweeted.

Here is Vaughan’s tweet

Some of the Team India fans were quick to comment on the Tweet, saying that India are the favourites to lift the silverware. “Wrong prediction Mr. Vaughan ,this is the correct prediction ,India beat England in the finals, KOHLI will be the hero,” wrote a fan.

“Michael, its morning. You can wake up now,” wrote another fan.

England will play the Windies in a five-match ODI series in the latter’s home, while India will play a T20I and ODI series against Australia at home. This is the last international assignment for both the teams before the World Cup. England women’s team beat the Indian women’s team in the World Cup in 2017, and their male counterparts will be looking to avenge the defeat this time around if India and their former colonizers meet in the finals. The quadrennial event begins on May 30 and England will be eager to end their trophy-drought.
